The big run on the Amazon “Paid Kindle” lists seems to have topped out at #979 out of thirty billion-some books.

The bigger news (for this author anyways) was the truly blissful moment that I saw this:

#1 in Noir

#8 in Hard Boiled

For a dude who steeped himself in the works of Hammett, Chandler, Whitfield, Cain, Thompson and more, this is the biggest geek-out moment I can imagine. To be able to look at the cover of my book, the book I lovingly crafted and spent 3 years nursing into adulthood, sitting aside the books that inspired it – The Maltese Falcon, Red Harvest, Mildred Pierce, Death in a Bowl – is absolutely mind-blowing.

I know it’s a smallish victory, but it’s a milestone in my fledgling fiction career. I also know it probably won’t last long, but at least I can say I made it to the show, even for so short a time. I can now officially call my book a “Best-Selling Hardboiled Noir”. That is bad-ass.

Thanks to everyone who shared FB posts and retweeted those tweets and Gee-plussed the plusses. You each have a sparsely furnished bachelor apartment with a thrift-store table and a bottle of Johnny Walker Black in some corner of my heart.
