NaNoWriMo here I come!

nano_09_red_participant_100x100_1So I’ve decided to finally take the plunge for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and try to pound out a novel in 29 days.

Check me out (or buddy me, if you’re also a sucker for punishment)

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/587589

Here’s the synopsis I posted there when I signed up this afternoon:

Moss Cole is a private detective. The kind you thought only existed in old movies and afternoon reruns. He’s smart, talented, sometimes even charming. You’d think he could find a better gig than carrying on his grandfather’s legacy as a ‘Dick’.

Moss is out of money, out of ideas and out of steam. That’s why he’s looking for a stolen Sinatra record… one that may be a figment of one cantankerous old bastards imagination. Of course, if that were true, Moss wouldn’t have so many people busting down his door and threatening his meager life.

I’ve had this story in mind for quite a while now, and I had already laid out a rough storyline and some backstory notes, but not a word of the story has been written yet. I’ll try to keep a word count update going here, and maybe post a weekly excerpt as I go. 50,000 words before November 30 works out to close to 2k a day, so wish me all the luck on the goddamn planet… I’m gonna need it!

And awaaaaaay we go!

Knights in Black Vinyl

I was recently struck by just how much of a seemingly invisible influence music has had on my personality. I was also somewhat befuddled by the difference between my grown-up perception of the music that has molded me, and the actuality of my influences. There are glaring similarities, to be sure, but that’s like comparing the moons of Jupiter to our piddly little nite-lite.

This all started with a quiz. One of those endless pain-in-the-ass, normally-I-wouldn’t-but-if-so-and-so-did-it – random bullshit quizzes that makes you choose your top 5 albums, top 5 golden age wrestlers, top 5 toilet paper brands, top 5 Twihard Milf-bait actors… what-have-you.

The Return of The Ramone!?

Apparently there’s a commercial playing on Canadian TV for the Comedy Central show Tosh.0 which features some small amount of our old friend Ramone! of VIVA RAMONE! talking about Assquatch and possibly Elske McCain’s ‘special effects’  (You can check out his videos in the VodPod box to the right or at YouTube).

Ramone

I spoke to the Masked Maniac the other day and – after a protracted and very strange story about being beaten and locked in a trunk by some mafiosa – he told me that his latest Mask surgery was a phenomenal success and he expects to be returning to action (on the net, if not necessarily in the ring) very very soon. Check him out on Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/ramoneesmuymacho
