It’s Eddie Poe’s Birthday!
Light a black candle, curl up with a big, bulky, leatherette-bound volume of the works of the Grand Master of Terror and Suspense and forget the world.
“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.” – E.A.P.
Now seek out some great horror to fill your night with the terrors of The Night’s Plutonian Shore. Might I suggest the excellent novella The Poe Toaster? Based upon the real mysteries surrounding Poe’s last days, and written by the estimable Jennifer Word. Available on Smashwords, Kindle and Nook!
Happy birthday Mr. Macabre – though you may not have celebrated life as much as a rejoining in death…
Cin-Cin!
I did not know that. He is considered the father of the mystery novel (I believe I have that correct), what a writer.
I did not realize that it was his birthday today. It was a co-worker’s birthday today and she was told by another about the distinction…
Wait! Did I just hear rats in the walls? *calls to cat* Jones? Go get ’em!
You have a good weekend, Axel.
Your buddy,
-Jimbo
I believe he was the progenitor of the Detective story, with Murders in the Rue Morgue. There were many before him, of course, but Poe’s C. Auguste Dupin was the first fictional sleuth that was an actual Investigator by trade.
Right you are, Jimbo! Have a great and productive weekend, my friend.
